Choose your chicken
SIR – You report (July 24) that the Cabinet is split over whether to allow imports of chlorine-washed chicken from America.
Irrespective of what is allowed into the country, if you are buying chicken or chicken products and you care about British agriculture and animal welfare, you need to buy British – every time.

SIR – According to the Adam Smith Institute, the average man would have to eat three whole chickens washed in chlorine each day to risk harm.
I am now worried about the potential harm of ingesting what must be even more significant amounts of chlorine during my thrice-weekly trips to the local swimming pool.
