Shrinking sausages
SIR – Shrinking products (report, July 25)? What about sausages – traditionally eight sausages in a 1lb pack and nowadays six in a 400g pack.
Michael Brotherton Chippenham, Wiltshire
SIR – Shrinking food in order to avoid price rises is nothing new. In 1962, Selwyn Lloyd, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, increased purchase tax on sweets. Opponents described this as “taxing children’s pocket money”. Cadbury’s reduced the size of its 2d chocolate bars, rather than raise the price.
