Born This Way
RADIO 2, 10.00PM
As part of the season marking the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of sex between men, Andrew Scott (Moriarty in Sherlock) tells the intertwined stories of gay culture and pop culture. He explores the pre-1967 entertainers such as Fred Barnes and Noël Coward who made coded references to their sexuality in their performances. We also hear how bands including The Kinks and The Rolling Stones challenged conventional masculinity, and how the Seventies ushered in a new era of liberation.
