Parent buried wrong way round must be exhumed

-

 Undertakers have been ordered to exhume and re-inter a body after burying it the wrong way round.

The body of Marion Egginton, 75, was placed in a shared plot beside husband David, watched by their grieving son, Kevin Taft, 51, who thought the coffin might be facing the opposite direction to his father’s.

He made inquiries at Stoke-on-trent council, which confirmed an error had been made. He then secured permission from the Home Office to exhume his mother at Fenton Cemetery and have the body correctly positioned.

Mr Taft, from Stoke, said: “I thought she was being buried the wrong way round with her feet facing the headstone and that is not how my dad was buried.

“It is bad enough having to bury your mum once – let alone twice.”
