Trouble in store for ‘the Waitrose of the North’

The upmarket grocery chain Booths, nicknamed “the Waitrose of the North’, faces a review of its finances amid concerns held by its bankers, RBS and HSBC, that it is too stretched. The 31-store company is 96 per cent owned by the Booth family who may have to invest more to keep control.
