Spreading its wings
Wildlife lovers are being asked to help chart the progress of comma butterflies, labelled the ‘comeback kid’ after populations soared 138 per cent in 40 years. At the turn of the 20th century the comma was restricted to a few counties in the Welsh borders and South-east England, but has since thrived. It gets its name from a white marking on its underside, which resembles a comma. People can submit sightings to www.bigbutterflycount.org
