Fans angry after music festival falls victim to the mud

-

♦ A music festival has been closed down and angry revellers asked to make their way home after torrential rain left it a muddy mess.

Several acts on the bill at the Y Not event in Derbyshire had been forced to cancel performances due to the bad weather.

Organisers said it had been an “incredibly difficult decision” but the state of the ground and stages had forced them to abandon yesterday’s event. Angry fans took to social media to demand refunds for their tickets, which cost in excess of £140.

John Drape, the event director, said: “We have meetings every six hours to discuss things like weather conditions and ground conditions. On Saturday night it became increasingly clear conditions were deteriorating and at midnight there was not one agency which felt it was safe to continue.”

Festival-goers advised to leave the site found roads were congested, with some closed off by police.

One fan tweeted: “Paying £140+ to watch ONE act, kill your legs and be dripping in mud; probably returning with pneumonia, is not my ideal weekend.”
