Economic week ahead

Mark Carney and his colleagues will give their verdict on the economy on Thursday when the Bank of England votes on whether or not to raise interest rates.

In June, three of the eight members of the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) backed a rate rise. They said rates should go up to avoid inflation taking off.

But weak economic data since then, including a fall in inflation, is expected to make the MPC hold off again, keeping rates at 0.25pc.
