Film choice
Annie (1982) 5STAR, 8.00PM ★★★
Albert Finney gives a hammy performance in this adaptation of the musical about an orphaned child (Aileen Quinn) who is fostered by a billionaire. Finney is the billionaire in question, while Tim Curry is typically camp – though very fun – as the crooked brother of the orphanage’s owner Miss Hannigan (Carol Burnett) who hopes to claim reward money by pretending to be Annie’s real father.
I Am Bolt (2016) BBC ONE, 8.30PM ★★★
This documentary film about the life and career of world-record breaking Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt, who won the 100m and 200m gold medals at the last three Olympics, highlights his magnetic charm. British film-making brothers Ben and Gabe Turner take us inside the world of a true sporting hero, though, naturally, their profile slips into hagiography at times. Bolt will feature in the World Championships, starting on Friday.
This Is the End (2013) ITV2, 12.25AM ★★
Six friends find themselves trapped in a house as a series of catastrophic events destroy Los Angeles in this haphazard comedy. Seth Rogen, James Franco (who painted most of the film’s artwork) and Jonah Hill play exaggerated versions of themselves in a bid to elicit chuckles. The cast are at their best when improvising and if crude humour and celebrity cameos are what you’re after, then you won’t be disappointed.
