Church HQ pays men 41pc more than women

 The Church of England has become the latest institution embroiled in the gender pay controversy after figures revealed that men in its central office are paid 41 per cent more than women.

The statistics, published as part of new rules requiring companies to divulge gender pay data, show that median pay for men is £45,072, compared to £31,900 for women. Covering 452 employees of the National Church Institutions, the central office of the Church, they also show that in the top pay band almost two thirds of staff are male [64 per cent], and 74 per cent of the lowestpaid staff are female. The data, which does not include clergy, reveals that bonuses for male investment staff are significantly larger on average, with men receiving £10,150 compared to women’s average of £4,475.

A Church of England spokesman said the figures show that “the pay difference for nearly three-quarters of our staff is less than one per cent, and for half of staff there is no gap in pay between men and women”.
