BBC Proms 2017

For Prom 26, Paavo Jarvi conducts the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen in Mozart’s Sinfonia concertante in E flat major, Brahms’s Symphony No2 in D major, and the UK premiere of Erkki-sven Tüür’s Flamma. Tüür’s intense, energetic music has roots in his previous career as the leader of a prog rock band influenced by Genesis, Mike Oldfield and Frank Zappa, though he later became equally inspired by Gregorian chants, 12-tone music and minimalism.

Flamma is a rich piece for strings, which draws from all of these diverse threads.
