Tinder takes a swipe at users who post tiger selfies after charity protests
TINDER, the dating app, has asked users to stop posting photographs of themselves with tigers after protests from animal charities.
The practice has grown in popularity among love-hungry customers who believe it improves their chances of finding a date.
However, the trend has been criticised by charities, including People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals.
Tinder has responded with a blog post that reads: “It’s time for the tiger selfies to go. More often than not, these photos take advantage of beautiful creatures that have been torn from their natural environment. Wild animals deserve to live in the wild.
“We are looking to you, as part of our Tinder community, to make a change. Take down your tiger photos, and we will make it worth your while by donating $10,000 [£7,600] to Project Cat in honour of International Tiger Day.”
The company then advised users to post pictures of themselves enjoying nature in other ways. It said these include planting a tree, walking to work, volunteering at an animal shelter, conserving water by drinking rosé and enjoying a summer sesame falafel bowl.
