Deliveroo riders get acid attack cameras
Deliveroo riders are to wear helmet video cameras following a spate of acid attacks against food couriers.
The company is trialling the use of the devices as protection against the asaults as well as robberies and other violent incidents.
It will also hire an additional 50 members of staff to monitor rider safety, and provide riders with training from the police, local authorities and ambulance services.
In recent weeks, riders for Deliveroo, Uber and other firms in London have been admitted to hospital with stab wounds, attacked with acid and had their vehicles stolen by perpetrators as young as 12.
Uber is yet to announce additional safety measures. One of its riders, who was the victim of an acid attack last month, told the BBC he felt as though he was working “in a jungle”.
