National Grid to split operator role

National Grid will create a new operating company for the electricity system by April 2019, in an effort to ensure there is no conflict of interest over its role as both operator and owner of the power grid. Ofgem, announcing the new firm, said it would have different staff, licences and offices to National Grid, as well as board members.
