Day 6 WEDNESDAY AUG 9
Brits to watch
Britain is almost certain to be unrepresented in Wednesday’s finals unless London Olympics 400m hurdles semi-finalist Jack Green has unexpectedly punched above his weight. Mo Farah returns to action after his opening night 10,000m exertions and should ease through the 5,000m heats. Americanbased Nethaneel Mitchell-blake is targeting a medal in the 200m, but has to successfully traverse the semi-final stage first. Teammate Zharnel Hughes will also hope to advance. Lorraine Ugen should have no trouble making it through the long jump preliminaries.
Foreign star
Brittney Reese (below). From 2009 to 2013, the American long jumper was unbeatable on the biggest stage, winning one Olympic and three world titles. Having shaken off her injury troubles, she came within two centimetres of retaining her Olympic gold medal last summer and tops the world rankings this year. A great battle with team-mate Tianna Bartoletta awaits.
Don’t-miss event
Women’s 400m. One of the most decorated and well-respected athletes of all time, Allyson Felix heads to London as the reigning 400m champion. However, if she is to win a 10th world title she will have to turn the tables on Shaunae Miller-uibo, of the Bahamas, who pipped her to Olympic gold last summer. A great head-tohead.
