Sophie Hitchon, hammer
I’ll have all my stuff ready the night before – my clothes, kit bag, everything I need. I’ll also have a list of times of everything I need to do, working backwards from the start time of the competition.
I’ll normally wake up at 9am, head to breakfast and then just relax for a while before lunch. I might watch some TV or Netflix or something like that. If I’m competing late in the evening I’ll normally go down and do a warm-up and a little bit of weightlifting after breakfast.
I like to know that I have everything sorted and that it’s all in place and ready to go. Most athletes are like that – or maybe it’s a woman thing.
I like to be in control of the things that I can control.
It makes you feel a little bit more like you have a handle on things because sport is so unpredictable that you never can know how you’re going to perform.
