Fake archbishop deported to Kenya after 10-year court fight

-

♦a self-proclaimed archbishop has been deported to Kenya and charged in a Nairobi court with stealing babies after a “scandalous” 10-year delay.

Gilbert Deya, a preacher who allegedly sold Aldi olive oil as a miracle cure for cancer, has been wanted in Nairobi since 2004, accused of involvement in a smuggling operation linked to claims he could provide infertile couples with “miracle babies” through the power of prayer.

Last month, High Court judges in Britain said it was “truly alarming” that the extradition case had been allowed to drag on for so long.

Deya, who calls himself the “Archbishop of Peckham”, is said to have taken female followers from his UK churches to Kenya after giving them herbs to make them believe they were pregnant, before presenting them with a baby, allegedly stolen from slum hospitals in Nairobi.

Mr Deya denied the charges against him.
