Grenfell fire survivor pleads for end to online racist abuse

-

♦ A Grenfell survivor has pleaded for an end to the racist abuse of residents who escaped the fire as she reveals that she is “scared” by the backlash.

The woman, who gave her name only as Lilian, said that she was too afraid to admit that she lived in the west London tower block because of the insults, particularly online.

Lilian said that survivors of the blaze, which is thought to have killed at least 80 people, had received “nasty comments, some of which I wouldn’t repeat”.

The former 10th floor resident said that they had been accused of “taking advantage” or having a “free ride” when in reality they had lost everything, including friends and family members for some, and they are forced to live in hotels without knowing where they will go next.

She added: “The only thing that I can say is that I wouldn’t wish it on anybody, even my worst enemy.”
