Secret agents moved out of Trump Tower
THE US secret service has reportedly moved out of Trump Tower in New York after a dispute with the president’s company over the terms of its lease.
The command post for agents protecting the president has been relocated from a floor beneath Donald Trump’s apartment to a trailer on the pavement 50 storeys below, it was reported.
The move happened early last month after both parties were unable to agree terms of the lease, two people familiar with the discussions told The Washington Post, adding that the price was among the sticking points.
A spokesman for the Trump organisation was reported as saying the government should look for space elsewhere.
“After much consideration, it was mutually determined that it would be more cost effective and logistically practical for the secret service to lease space elsewhere,” Amanda Miller told the newspaper.
Secret service officials, however, say the agency is still in talks to rent space in the tower.
