New York police launch Dunkin’ Donuts boycott

- By Nick Allen in Washington

POLICE in New York have reportedly boycotted Dunkin’ Donuts, the fast food chain where officers regularly go for coffee.

According to the New York Post, the stand-off began last week after an employee was accused of declining to serve ice cream to two officers.

Staff at several outlets in Manhattan told the newspaper no members of the New York Police Department, who are usually regular customers, had been coming in.

One of those outlets said it normally served around 20 police officers a day. The controversy began after two officers from the 73rd Precinct’s detective squad entered a Dunkin’ Donuts in Brooklyn to get some ice cream.

The employee was alleged to have told them “I don’t serve cops,” according to police sources who spoke to the New York Post.

That led to the police detectives union calling on fellow members of the New York Police Department to launch a boycott.

Dunkin’ Brands, the chain’s parent company, said a confusing layout in the store had meant the police tried to order at a closed cash register.
