Singer Taylor Swift sued by DJ accused of groping her
TAYLOR SWIFT’S lawyers yesterday told a packed Denver court that the pop singer was “absolutely certain” she was assaulted by a Colorado DJ, whom she accuses of groping her during a meet-and-greet event.
Swift, the singer-songwriter whose net worth is said by Forbes magazine to be £34million, accused David Mueller of assaulting her at a photo session at a concert in Denver in 2013. He was fired from his job as a result of Swift’s accusation and has sued her for $3million (£2.3million) in lost income.
Gabriel Mcfarland, Mr Mueller’s lawyer, said: “Let’s be clear about something from the onset – inappropriate touching is offensive, it’s wrong and should never be tolerated. Let’s also be clear that falsely accusing someone of inappropriate touching is equally offensive.”
Swift’s lawyer, Douglas Baldridge, hit back, telling the jury that Mr Mueller gave seven accounts of what happened and destroyed conversations about it he recorded with his bosses.
Mr Baldridge asked the jurors: “What’s wrong with this – a woman gets assaulted, reports it, and gets sued?”
