‘Fast’ broadband proving anything but

-

♦ Households that pay for the fastest broadband connections are only getting half the speed they expect, according to Which?

The consumer group’s analysis found overall speeds consumers received were 58 per cent of what they were expecting.

The results show that the faster the expected speed, the bigger the expectation gap between anticipated speeds and speeds actually received.

Tests revealed that those expecting speeds between 30Mbps and 500Mbps were on average only able to get 54 per cent of the speed they were anticipating. The outlook was better for users expecting slower internet speeds of between 10 and 30Mbps, who received 89 per cent of what they were expecting.

Alex Neill, Which? managing director of home services and products, said: “Consumers need to regularly test their broadband speed to check they are getting the service they are paying for. If they aren’t, they should contact their provider so that any issues with their service can be resolved.”
