Southwark council cuts off gas to tower blocks
The gas supply to hundreds of homes in four high-rise tower blocks has been cut off after an investigation revealed the buildings may not be safe.
The decision to shut off the fuel to the Ledbury Towers in south London, affecting 242 properties, was made last night. Southwark council said while the move was “inconvenient” for those living in the Peterchurch, Bromyard, Skenfirth and Sarnsfield blocks, it was “not willing to take any risks”.
It followed the discovery of a “historic” issue with the gas supply after structural engineers Arup were instructed to investigate cracks in the four blocks in the wake of the Grenfell Tower tragedy.
