Racist sex crime

-

SIR – It is welcome that at least some politically correct people have come to their senses after previously refusing to name sexually exploitative gangs of men largely of Asian, Muslim background.

Yes, as you report (August 11), these gangs are “racist criminals”. But we should not lose sight of the fact that they are also sexual criminals.

I am concerned that if sex attacks are committed by white men against white women, or by black men against black women, the horror of what they’ve done may be lost because they weren’t deemed to be racist. Anne Jappie

SIR – The formulation of your headline, “Asian sex gangs are ‘racist criminals’,” insults Asian Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Christians, Confucians, secularists and those of other faiths living in the UK.

The report quotes a commentary on the next page by Imam Qari Asim: “Muslims cannot hide from appalling abuse”. A discussion on the same subject on Newsnight the previous night was composed entirely of Muslim commentators (all in denial, in one way or another).
