Shulman’s a picture of defiance in bikini selfie

-

Alexandra Shulman may have departed Vogue after 25 years in the editor’s seat, but she is still making the news. This week, while holidaying in Italy, she posted an unfiltered, unphotoshopped picture of herself in a bikini.

The snap won the hearts of the 57-year-old’s fashionista followers, who are used to the pictures of airbrushed models featured in the fashion bible. Some more spiky social media users suggested that Shulman could have been similarly sparing on the photoshopping when she edited the magazine.

But Shulman never went for conventional, chocolate-boxpretty beauty. Her last September issue cover features a group of women who are all striking in their looks, more muses than models. Yes, Kate Moss features, but then so does the divine Edie Campbell, a woman as well-respected for her ability to ride a horse (she has a HGV licence to drive a horse box).

Shulman is being as subversive as ever with her bikini selfie. Perhaps, as she poses as God intended her, she is sending a big two fingers up to the seemingly superficial fashion world she is leaving behind.
