Steps to save Test cricket from extinction
SIR – It was sad to see so many empty seats at the Old Trafford Test Match the other weekend.
In an era where the longer game seems to be dying around the world, what message does a half-full stadium in England send?
Not only can we not see cricket on terrestrial television – and the Ashes’ transfer to BT Sport will surely see audiences plummet further – but Test grounds charge a king’s ransom to watch games.
The solution: charge less to get punters through the gates, and put cricket back on terrestrial channels. Simon Warburton
