SIR – You report (August 12) that the Dutch “exported 700,000 eggs to UK as they kept contamination secret”.
Here we have a prime example of why we need more home-produced food, not less. Our food safety standards are second to none.
Those extolling market forces for the future of agriculture after Brexit should take note. More imported food will only increase the risk of further food scandals.
The supermarkets should also be ashamed of their double standards, placing Lion-branded eggs in their shop windows but using cheap imported rubbish in manufactured products, where we can’t see it. William Bradley
