Storyville: Out of Thin Air – Murder in Iceland
This title instantly conjures up visions of Nordic noir, and director Dylan Howitt does allow a few of the genre’s audiovisual tropes – along with a sprinkling of Errol Morris – to seep into this gripping true-crime documentary about a notorious case from the Seventies. When a teenager and a thirtysomething disappeared in 1974, a nation’s blissful belief in its own isolation from the evils of the outside world was shattered. Foul play was suspected, although neither of their bodies was ever found. Nonetheless, six people were ultimately convicted for the pair of “murders” based solely on their confessions. GT
