Plan B BBC’S hunt for bells

The BBC began a national search to find a replacement for Big Ben’s “bongs” before settling for a recording of the bell. The BBC uses live chimes for its Radio 4 news bulletins at 6pm and at midnight. It said Nottingham’s Little John bell was the closest match.
