Aberdeen rose 3.2pc yesterday on its first day of trading as a combined company after the completion of a merger between Standard Life and Aberdeen Asset Management.

The tie-up created Britain’s largest active manager, with assets of £670bn.

The two firms’ former bosses Keith Skeoch and Martin Gilbert had been named co-chief executives of the combined entity, with Mr Skeoch running the company day to day and Mr Gilbert in charge of external affairs.
