Ex-barclays Libor trader seeks legal review

- By Lucy Burton

A FORMER Barclays banker found guilty of Libor-rigging offences last year is understood to have submitted his case to an independent criminal review body with the hope of having his conviction overturned.

Jonathan Mathew, who was sentenced to four years after being convicted of attempting to manipulate the London interbank offered rate last year, has appealed to the Criminal Cases Review Commission (CCRC), his lawyer said in an interview with Bloomberg yesterday.

The move comes months after CCRC, which looks into cases of miscarriages of justice and has the power to refer cases to the Court of Appeal, accepted the case of the first trader jailed over Libor-rigging, Tom Hayes.

Mr Hayes, the former UBS and Citigroup trader who is currently serving an 11-year sentence after being convicted in 2015, had his application accepted earlier this year.
