‘Foxy Knoxy’ needs to get on with her life

-

‘If someone wants to think of me as a femme fatale, for whatever reason,” Amanda Knox tells Rolling Stone magazine, “or wants to think that I am guilty, then they are going to see that. There is nothing that I can do to change their minds.”

I’m not convinced that the 30-year-old minds that deeply about the whole “Foxy Knoxy” enchantress side. Would she be giving interviews to Rolling Stone if she did? And as for the murder and sexual assault of Meredith Kercher – a murder and sexual assault that she and her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, were twice convicted and twice exonerated of – she’s done a fair amount to “change peoples’ minds”: the Diane Sawyer interview, the book, Waiting To Be Heard – more interviews and now Rolling Stone, where Knox gives her views on other great injustices such as Trump’s transgender ban in the armed forces. She may have been wrongly convicted, but right now Knox is starting to look guilty of one thing – and that’s profiting from Kercher’s death. I don’t mean financially – there’s inevitably an “all proceeds going to charity” disclaimer writ large where any moneymaking is concerned in these situations – but publicly. And although it makes sense that the innocent would want to convince the world of their innocence after serving time for a crime they didn’t commit, if I were Knox’s parents, friends or co-workers I’d be telling her to stop talking and start the “moving on” she claims to want so desperately.

We’ll never know what happened that night in Perugia, but Knox needs to remember that however gruesome her ordeal, the biggest victim wasn’t her but Kercher, who would be 30 now, maybe married and maybe a mother. She also needs to remember that every time she does something like Rolling Stone, Kercher’s family are forced to re-live the waking nightmare they were condemned to on Nov 1 2007.

Knox has got her life back; they never will.
