GP created fake patient called ‘M Mouse’ to fill gaps in his diary

- By Daily Telegraph Reporter

A GP created a fake patient called “M Mouse” to fill up gaps in his schedule, a disciplinary tribunal has heard.

Dr Andrew Thomson deleted slots from his diary and filled gaps with “ghost” patients when he was actually available for consultation, it is alleged.

The GP has admitted logging a fake patient at his practice at the Academy Health Centre in Forfar, Tayside, named “M Mouse” during an ongoing hearing at the Medical Practitioners’ Tribunal Service (MPTS) in Manchester.

It is alleged that he scammed the system for more than five years to make it seem he was unavailable when he was.

Dr Thomson admitted to a string of allegations relating to appointment slots being deleted, falsely claiming he had seen or spoken to patients and on one occasion making an appointment for someone he knew was an inpatient at Ninewells Hospital, Dundee.

He also admitted that on Sept 16 he logged an appointment for a patient in the name of M Mouse. He has admitted that M Mouse was a “fake unregistered patient” that he knew did not exist.

Dr Thomson, who serves on the Tayside Local Medical Committee and is a GP at Brechin Health Centre, was not available for comment. NHS Tayside and Brechin Health Centre said they could make no comment on the matter.
