Schoolboy, 13, dies after swimming at beauty spot

A 13-year-old boy has died after getting into difficulty while swimming at a popular beauty spot.

He had been playing with friends when he had to be pulled from the water at Edgbaston Reservoir in Birmingham. Despite being given CPR by members of the public, the fire service and ambulance crews, he died later in hospital.

The boy’s death on Wednesday has prompted the emergency services to warn of the dangers of swimming in open water. His family are being supported by specially trained officers from West Midlands Police.
