Lyme disease, also known as Lyme borreliosis, is an infectious disease caused by a bacteria carried by ticks.

It is not a “notifiable” disease, so accurate incident statistics are difficult to obtain.

Some people argue that the disease can be transmitted between humans, but majority scientific opinion states that the disease is only transferred via tick bites.
