Mother ‘cut in two’ by lift

A NEW mother has died in Spain after becoming trapped in a hospital lift door as she was being transported on a stretcher.

Rocio Cortes Nunez, 25, had just given birth by caesarean section to her third daughter, Triana, when she was killed as the lift malfunctioned.

Local reports said Ms Nunez was “cut in two” as the lift at Valme Hospital, in Seville, began to function unexpectedly and the doors closed before she was fully inside. Regional health minister Marina Alvarez said Ms Nunez was trapped after the lift made an “unusual movement” as the porter went to move her.

Firefighters took nearly two hours to free her body following the incident on Sunday. Jose Gaspar, her husband, told Spanish paper ABC: “This cannot end like this. This time it has been Rocio but tomorrow it could be another person. I’m a total wreck.”
