Church calls for end to killings after boy’s death

-

The head of the Catholic Church in the Philippines, Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle, has called for an end to the “waste of human lives” after one of the bloodiest weeks in president Rodrigo Duterte’s drugs war, in which a 17-year-old was among dozens killed.

At least 76 people were shot dead last week during police operations, including Kian Delos Santos, 17, who police initially claimed had fired first, only for CCTV footage to later emerge of the boy being carried by two men to an alleyway where his body was found.
