Cricket fan scrutiny

SIR – While working on my computer last week, I had the opportunity to tune in to Test Match Special and listen to the radio broadcast of the evening’s proceedings.

The BBC website advised me that I needed to register with the broadcaster before I could tune in (why?).

I duly clicked the register button, whereupon a menu was presented, the requirements of which included my email address (why?), a password (why?) and my gender (why?). The sub-menu for the gender button gave four options.

I much enjoyed the commentary, and hope that all other listeners – regardless of their gender – did, too. Dr Michael Bailey

Bowdon, Cheshire

SIR – There is absolutely nothing wrong with my eyesight, but I have found that I cannot follow the path of the pink ball at all once it has been released from the bowler’s hand (Letters, August 21).

I hope this experiment does not last long. Martin Baker

Tadworth, Surrey

SIR – When will golf balls be coloured or striped, so I know which ball belongs to which player? Bernard Powell

Southport, Lancashire
