Expert advice How to make a beer trap

Cut the top third off a plastic drinks bottle, with cap removed. Pour beer or orange juice into the bottom part of the bottle. Turn the cut top upside down to create a funnel and push into the lower half (keeping it above the liquid).

Hang up the wasp trap 5ft from the ground on a tree, bush or fence post. Leave for seven days, then take down trap in early morning or dusk.

Drain off beer using a kitchen sieve. Rinse dead wasps under a tap and leave to dry.

Tip wasps on to a sheet of tin foil lined with tissue and wrap into a loose parcel.

Keep wasps in the fridge before posting as they will go mouldy.
