Chevron’s chief Watson to resign

John Watson, chief executive of oil group Chevron, is to step down, according to reports in the Wall Street Journal.

Mr Watson has led the company since 2010 and has had to slash costs and cancel projects to cope with a downturn in the industry. Vice chairman Michael Wirth is seen as a potential successor.
