Enjoy panel shows? BBC has news for you

THE age of the television panel show is coming to an end, with the BBC saying it has no further plans to commission them.

Have I Got News For You is a fixture of the BBC Two schedules, but the future is elsewhere, according to Patrick Holland, the channel’s controller.

“What we are not looking for is any more panel shows, anything that feels like it could have been done five or 10 years ago,” he told an audience at the Edinburgh International Television Festival.

“The zeitgeist is the key and being timely and of the moment.”
