SIR – When I was with Jack de Manio on the BBC Today programme, at the end of the second edition (the half that began at 8.15) we reckoned that we had finished work for the day, so would retire to the St James’s Club where we would not infrequently breakfast (Letters, August 23) off haggis and gin.
