Track record: train travels at just 20mph
Britain’s slowest inter-city train travels at just 20mph and makes 14 stops, analysis has revealed.
The 14-mile journey from Liverpool Central to Chester takes 41 minutes. In comparison, the London Paddington to Reading train, which travels at 93mph, covers more than two-and-ahalf times the distance in 17 fewer minutes. The analysis of the quickest trains on 19 routes has sparked concerns of a North-south divide.
According to the research, trains connecting the nation’s major towns and cities are up to four times slower outside the South East.
