Overtaking lorries

- Chris Boone

SIR – John Hinchsliff (Letters, August 26) mentions being stuck behind overtaking lorries whose speed difference is only about half a mile an hour. Who has not experienced this?

There is a simple solution, but as far as I can see it is never used. I used to be a commercial vehicle driver and if another vehicle pulled out to overtake me I would just knock back the cruise control by 2mph or so. This meant the overtaking vehicle could get past in 15 or 20 seconds. Perhaps it could be written into the Highway Code.
