The way forward

SIR – The most beautiful street I know (Letters, August 29) is Newbiggin in Richmond, North Yorkshire.

Wide, cobbled and flanked by elegant, mainly residential buildings, with airy, graceful trees planted along the kerbs of its spacious pavements, it seems always bathed in golden light.

It also has a wonderful fish and chip shop, and a pub with stunning views over Swaledale.
