Alzheimer’s sufferer charged £110 a month for Sky package

-

 SKY has been forced to apologise after it allegedly charged an elderly Alzheimer’s sufferer hundreds of pounds a month for “unnecessary” services.

The man’s niece took to Twitter yesterday after discovering that her uncle, 72, pays £110 a month for a Sky TV and phone package. He was also being billed £120 a month for gas and electric and £35 for boiler servicing, she said.

She said she only realised he was making the “unnecessarily large payments” after offering to help him manage his money.

The woman said she tried to cancel the Sky account to no avail, as the man was unable to recall a required password.

Subsequently Sky has apologised and said it hoped to find the best deal for the woman’s uncle.

Gavin Terry, policy manager at the Alzheimer’s Society, said it was important for staff to be trained to spot the signs of vulnerability.
