1970: Born in Novo Mesta, Slovenia, as Melanija Knavs on April 26

1986: Appears in commercials, having modelled since the age of five. Changes surname to the Germanic, Knauss.

1995: Having been modelling for fashion houses in Paris and Milan, Knauss meets Paolo Zampolli, co-owner of Metropolitan Models and a friend of Donald Trump.

1996: Knauss moves to New York to further her career.

1998: Introduced to Donald Trump, a property tycoon, at a party thrown by Zampolli during New York Fashion Week.

2001: Having modelled for Vogue and Sports Illustrated, she is granted a Green Card as a model of “extraordinary ability”.

2005: Marries Trump in a fairytale wedding at his Mar-a-lago club in Florida, attended by Bill and Hillary Clinton. Billy Joel sings at the reception, and the wedding cake is covered in 3,000 roses.

2006: Their first child, Barron William Trump, is born.
