A CAMBRIDGE University student who burned a £20 note in front of a homeless man has apologised, admitting he had “abused his privilege”.

Ronald Coyne was kicked out of the university’s Conservative Association earlier this year after being filmed wearing a white bow tie and tails as he burned the note in front of the homeless man.

The law student has written a letter of apology as he prepares to continue his studies at Pembroke College.

The college has circulated the letter in the “hope” it will “generate support” for Mr Coyne ahead of his return.

“I abused my privilege as a student at such a great university and behaved in a way which is totally contrary to the values of the university and of its students,” he wrote. “I am sorry.”

He said he had been subjected to disciplinary action, and had enrolled on awareness courses relating to alcohol and “social inclusion”.
