THE G TO R OF THE NEW GLAMOUR

-

GIANT-SIZED Go big or go home. Bags are oversized, boots are longer (see last week’s column), earrings dangle further, belts are wider and sweaters more oversized.

LAYER Think sequinned sleeve peaking out from under a sweatshirt, an extra big cashmere knit over a satin slip dress and under a parka coat, a rich coloured suede long boot under a swishy plissé or tulle skirt with a wool blazer.

ATHLETIC An element of the sporty – a pair of trainers, a roomy jersey sweater, a ribbed vest peeping out of a jumper – will ensure your glamour feels fresh and modern.

MATERIAL

Touchy freely texture and contrast are key. Satin, fine velvet, crushed velvet, lamb’s wool, shearling, corduroy and suede are the tactile fabrics you want to add to your wardrobe. Wear them all at once.

OPULENT Sparkle, sequins, crystal, tulle and taffeta (not seen in respectable company since the Eighties) are all available to sprinkle through your autumn wardrobe. Sprinkle with care.

UNDERSTATED COLOUR Camel, grey, tan, white, ivory and navy are the neutral canvas to which you can add your glamorous flourishes. That might be a silk blouse in vivid orange or an emerald green skirt. It might just be a pair of gold hoop earrings or red lipstick. These building-block colours allow you to dial it up or down.

RELAXED

Polished but not uptight is the look of the season. Flat slippers, wide cuts, fluid fabrics and styles and too-big jumpers are what the new glam-casual is all about.
