Motorist given ticket as travellers camp scot free
A council has been accused of double standards after slapping a driver with a parking fine while turning a blind eye to an illegal traveller camp on the same site.
The motorhome was hit with a £70 penalty after apparently overstaying its allocated time at the site in Westonsuper-mare, Somerset.
But in the far corner of the car park a convoy of 13 traveller vehicles – which had pitched up several days earlier – escaped punishment.
Locals have accused North Somerset Council of double standards.
Nick Yates, council spokesman, said: “We would not have normally issued a ticket to a vehicle that was contravening the parking regulations at the same time as there are travellers parked on the same site. We will be reviewing the issuing of this ticket.”
